Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has delved into the history of the relationship<\/a> between India and Israel, which has improved exponentially<\/a> since 2014 when he came to power, as he addressed the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the\u00a0speech<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday, the first day of his\u00a0two-day visit to Israel<\/a>, Modi also urged closer cooperation on various projects, including the proposed India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and the I2U2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What did Modi say during his Knesset address?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Modi was greeted with a standing ovation in the Knesset. Parliamentarians chanted his name as the Indian prime minister replied with a namaste by joining his palms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indian prime minister opened his speech by saying the \u201cworld was shattered by the barbaric terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7\u201d, referring to the 2023 Hamas-led attacks on villages and army outposts in southern Israel that triggered Israel\u2019s genocidal war on Gaza, which has killed more than 70,000 Palestinians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe feel your pain. We share your grief,\u201d Modi said, adding that India stands by Israel \u201cwith full conviction\u201d. Modi said India and Israel are \u201ctrusted partners\u201d and this \u201ccontributes to global stability and prosperity\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this, the Indian leader gave a history of Jewish people in India and of the relationship between India and Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are committed to expanding trade, strengthening investment flows and promoting joint infrastructural development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Modi added that an investment treaty signed between India and Israel last year will provide confidence and predictability for businesses in both India and Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will also work closely in different formats, such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and the I2U2 frameworks between India, Israel, UAE and the US,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
