South Africa accuses Israeli representative of \u2018gross abuse of diplomatic privilege\u2019 as Israel orders reciprocal move.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>South Africa is expelling Israel\u2019s envoy to the country, the foreign affairs ministry announced, accusing the Israeli official of engaging in \u201cunacceptable violations of diplomatic norms\u201d that challenge South African sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation said on Friday that it was giving Ariel Seidman, the charge d\u2019affaires at the Israeli embassy, 72 hours to leave South Africa after declaring him persona non grata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It accused Seidman of launching \u201cinsulting attacks\u201d against South African\u00a0President Cyril Ramaphosa<\/a>\u00a0on social media as well as \u201ca deliberate failure\u201d to inform the ministry of purported visits by senior Israeli officials\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSuch actions represent a gross abuse of diplomatic privilege and a fundamental breach of the Vienna Convention. They have systematically undermined the trust and protocols essential for bilateral relations,\u201d the department said in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe urge the Israeli Government to ensure its future diplomatic conduct demonstrates respect for the Republic and the established principles of international engagement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
