The protester disrupts Rachel Reeves\u2019 speech to ask why the UK government was continuing to \u2018arm Israel\u2019.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>A pro-Palestine activist has interrupted the United Kingdom\u2019s Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves\u2019 speech during the annual Labour Party conference in Liverpool to call out the country\u2019s ongoing complicity in\u00a0Israel\u2019s genocidal war<\/a>\u00a0in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protester, later named as Sam P, stood up less than 10 minutes into the finance minister\u2019s speech, holding a large Palestinian flag and asking, \u201cWhy is Britain still arming Israel?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLabour is complicit in the mass starvation of Palestinians,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to the protest, Reeves told delegates, \u201cWe understand your cause and we are recognising a Palestinian state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut we are now a party in government, not a party of protest,\u201d Reeves added, receiving a standing ovation from those in the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But in a statement from the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), which planned the disruption with London for a Free Palestine, the groups called on the ruling Labour Party to impose a \u201cfull two-way arms embargo on Israel\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe end of RAF surveillance flights over Gaza that gather intelligence for Israel \u2026 The immediate resignation of Labour Party leadership for lying to the public about Britain\u2019s complicity in enabling Israel\u2019s genocide \u2026 [and] an end to Britain\u2019s diplomatic ties with Israel,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May, PYM released a report<\/a> that found that the British government had continued to send military exports to Israel despite the UK announcing that it had cut arms export licences to Israel that could be used during the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nihal, an organiser with PYM, said the action was taken because the \u201chorror in Gaza is only growing as Palestinian people are experiencing the most violent bombardment since the beginning of the genocide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTens of thousands of Palestinians have already been starved, bombed, and killed while the Labour Party approves weapons licences, shares intelligence, and offers diplomatic cover for these crimes,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
