The BBC’s International editor, Jeremy Bowen, described the UK’s plans to recognise a Palestinian state as a “big change for British foreign policy”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the UK will recognise a Palestinian state at a UN meeting in September unless Israel takes “substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking from Jerusalem, Bowen warned that it is “vanishingly unlikely” that Israel will meet all the conditions, which include a ceasefire and a commitment to a long-term peace process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
