<\/a>A three-member team from the United Kingdom\u2019s Department for Transport (DST) concluded an aviation security ins\u00adpection at Islamabad Inter\u00adnat\u00adional Airport on Thursday, declaring Pakistan\u2019s security arrangements \u201csatisfactory and in line with international standards\u201d, a spokesman for the Airport Security Force said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team arrived on July 8 for a th\u00ad\u00ad\u00adree-day aviation security inspection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accompanied by a representative of the British High Commission, the UK team began its assessment with an inaugural meeting attended by the Chief Security Officer and all relevant airport stakeholders.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll aviation security stakeholders including PAA officials, ASF personnel, and representatives from PIA, British Airways, Air Blue, Kitchen Cuisine, Ras Menzies and others attended the initial briefing,\u201d the PCAA said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi auditors to assess seven major airports next month<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The inspection focused on security deployment, internal controls, scre\u00adening procedures, issuance of passes, vehicle and staff checks, CCTV operations, perimeter security, deployment of quick response forces, drone arrangements, and the ASF\u2019s emergency response capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team also reviewed catering and flight operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the conclusion of the visit, the UK inspectors commended the efforts of the Airports Security Force to ensure safe air travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi visit soon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, a Saudi aviation security team is scheduled to conduct a security audit of seven major Pakistani airports\u2014including Isla\u00admabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Multan\u2014starting in August, according to PCAA spokesperson Shahid Qadir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDirector General of Saudi Ara\u00adbia\u2019s General Authority of Civil Av\u00ad\u00adiation (GACA) has approached Pa\u00ad\u00adkistan\u2019s DG PCAA, Nadir Shafi Dar, to conduct an aviation security au\u00ad\u00addit of seven Pakistani airports,\u201d PCAA spokesperson Shahid Qadir said. \u201cA Saudi aviation security team will visit Pakistan in August and October to conduct the audit,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Saudi team will coordinate closely with the Directorate of Aviation Security (AvSec) of the PCAA, which will host the visiting delegation. The audits come as Pakistan\u2019s civil aviation sector shows marked improvement in international benchmarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan achieved a score of 86.73 per cent in the International Civil Aviation Organisation\u2019s Uni\u00adversal Security Audit Programme (USAP), significantly higher than the global average of 71pc and India\u2019s 73pc, according to the CAA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Direct US flights<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PCAA Director General Nadir Shafi Dar, a veteran aviation specialist, has also initiated engagement with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in pursuit of direct flight operations to the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move follows the recent restoration<\/a> of flights to the European Union and progress toward re-entry into the United Kingdom\u2019s aviation network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
