{"id":20964,"date":"2025-06-29T07:17:37","date_gmt":"2025-06-29T07:17:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gsrra.com\/?p=20964"},"modified":"2025-09-30T11:38:19","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T11:38:19","slug":"fo-welcomes-un-decision-to-remove-all-references-to-pakistan-from-report-on-children-and-armed-conflict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gsrra.com\/?p=20964","title":{"rendered":"FO welcomes UN decision to remove all references to Pakistan from report on children and armed conflict"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Foreign Office (FO) on Friday welcomed the United Nations Secretary General\u2019s decision to remove references to Pakistan from its&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/childrenandarmedconflict.un.org\/document\/annual-report-of-the-secretary-general-on-children-and-armed-conflict-5\/\">annual report<\/a>&nbsp;on children and armed conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UN\u2019s Children and Armed Conflict agenda, led by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, works to protect children affected by war by&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/childrenandarmedconflict.un.org\/\">monitoring<\/a>&nbsp;six grave violations: killing and maiming, recruitment and use of children, sexual violence, abduction, attacks on schools and hospitals, and denial of humanitarian access. The annual report of the Secretary-General lists parties committing these violations, aiming to hold them accountable and promote measures for child protection in conflict zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its latest report released on June 17, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General noted that, \u201cIn view of the level of grave violations in Pakistan and the preventive measures adopted as agreed by the government in June 2025 in cooperation with the United Nations to protect children, the situation of Pakistan will be removed from my next report.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mofa.gov.pk\/press-releases\/pakistan-welcomes-united-nations-secretary-generals-decision-to-remove-references-to-pakistan-from-the-annual-report-on-children-and-armed-conflict\">statement<\/a>&nbsp;issued by the FO said, \u201cThis significant outcome is a testament to the Government of Pakistan\u2019s constructive, sustained, and intensive engagement with the United Nations, including close cooperation with the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement said that the decision was an international recognition of the \u201cstrong institutional, legislative, and policy measures implemented by Pakistan\u201d for children\u2019s rights and well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is an affirmation of Pakistan\u2019s firm commitment to aligning its national legal and institutional frameworks with international norms and best practices for safeguarding children affected by conflict and violence,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It mentioned that Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate closely with the United Nations to enhance and strengthen efforts for protecting and promoting children\u2019s rights, ensuring a safer and brighter future for generations to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also welcomed the decision, stating, \u201cThis reflects our sustained, constructive engagement and reaffirms Pakistan\u2019s commitment to child protection.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt also marks a significant recognition of Pakistan\u2019s national efforts to uphold child rights and ensure their well-being,\u201d he&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MIshaqDar50\/status\/1938624138362429658\">wrote<\/a>&nbsp;on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From Gaza to the Democratic Republic of Congo, violence against children in conflict zones reached \u201cunprecedented levels\u201d in 2024, the UN\u2019s annual report&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1919239\/violence-against-children-hit-unprecedented-levels-un\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report verified 41,370 grave violations against children in 2024, including 36,221 committed in 2024 and 5,149 committed previously but confirmed in 2024 \u2014 the highest number since the monitoring tool was established nearly 30 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new high beats 2023, another record year, which itself represented a 21pc increase over the preceding year.
