Delhi, without evidence, blamed Islamabad for the attack. The latter has denied the allegations and called for a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1906694\/pm-shehbaz-says-pakistan-open-to-neutral-transparent-probe-into-pahalgam-attack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">neutral probe<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the two nuclear-armed neighbours agreeing to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1910113\/world-community-hails-ceasefire-decision-between-pakistan-and-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ceasefire<\/a>&nbsp;this month following the worst fighting between them in decades, the accord remains \u201cin abeyance\u201d by India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data provided by Wapda today, the inflow of water at Chenab River at&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/4F7yv5aXFT843W4d7\">Marala Headworks<\/a>&nbsp;was 98,200 cusecs on May 29, before dropping to 44,800 cusecs yesterday. The inflows plunged further to 7,200 cusecs today, with no water discharged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, a reduction of 91,000 cusecs in the inflow of water at Chenab River at Marala Headworks was recorded in the last two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ffd.pmd.gov.pk\/home\">Flood Forecasting Division<\/a>&nbsp;of the Pakistan Meteorological Department categorised the flow at Marala Barrage as \u201cnormal\u201d and showed a falling trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chenab River water flows had also been impacted when India virtually&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1908705\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stopped water discharges<\/a>&nbsp;from it into Pakistan without prior notice on May 5, just before the two countries\u2019 military escalation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A senior official of the Punjab irrigation department had&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1908705#:~:text=senior%20official%20of%20the%20Punjab%20irrigation%20department%20confirmed%20on%20Monday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said at the time<\/a>&nbsp;that India was using Pakistan\u2019s water \u201cto fill up their dams\/hydropower projects in the Chenab basin\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that Marala Headworks was located 76 kilometres away from&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/MD5T2XKPwH9kKCTX8\">Salal Dam<\/a>, one of India\u2019s three hydropower projects in the Chenab basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the official, Chenab is very important for Pakistan\u2019s irrigation system as its canals, including the Upper Chenab and Bambawali-Ravi-Bedian canals, irrigate a vast tract of agricultural land in Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rejecting the weaponisation of water by India, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif yesterday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1914272\/pakistan-wont-allow-india-to-cross-iwt-red-line-pm-shehbaz-tells-intl-glaciers-conference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned<\/a>&nbsp;that Pakistan would not allow Delhi to cross the red line by holding the IWT in abeyance and endangering millions of lives for narrow political gains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His statement came after India\u2019s PM Narendra Modi&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1912761\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">threatened<\/a>&nbsp;that Pakistan would not get water from rivers over which India had \u201crights\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even after the ceasefire, Modi had&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1911383#:~:text=Indian%20Prime%20Minister%20Narendra%20Modi%20ordered%20officials%20to%20expedite%20planning%20and%20execution%20of%20projects%20on%20the%20Chenab%2C%20Jhelum%20and%20Indus%20rivers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ordered<\/a>&nbsp;officials to expedite the planning and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1908603\/india-starts-work-on-hydro-projects-after-suspending-treaty-with-pakistan-say-sources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">execution of projects<\/a>&nbsp;on the Chenab, Jhelum and Indus rivers \u2014 three bodies of water in the Indus system that are designated primarily for Pakistan\u2019s use, six people told&nbsp;<em>Reuters<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pakistan Commission on Indus Waters (PCIW) has finalised a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1908458\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">detailed report<\/a>&nbsp;on the IWT violations by India, including the construction of three hydroelectric projects at the western rivers, including Jhelum and Chenab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reference Link:- <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1914515\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1914515<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A reduction of 91,000 cusecs in water flows from India into Chenab River was recorded in the past two days, the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) said on Saturday.
