{"id":19955,"date":"2025-05-30T02:45:28","date_gmt":"2025-05-30T02:45:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gsrra.com\/?p=19955"},"modified":"2025-05-30T02:45:30","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T02:45:30","slug":"from-crisis-to-crypto-pakistan-launches-strategic-bitcoin-reserve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gsrra.com\/?p=19955","title":{"rendered":"From crisis to crypto: Pakistan launches strategic Bitcoin reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bilal also announced establishment of national Bitcoin wallet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In a groundbreaking announcement that positioned Pakistan as a new player in the global digital economy, Bilal Bin Saqib, the newly appointed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40364734\/with-digital-push-underway-pm-appoints-bilal-bin-saqib-as-sapm-on-blockchain-and-crypto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM)<\/a>&nbsp;on Blockchain and Crypto and CEO of the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC), unveiled the country\u2019s first government-backed strategic Bitcoin reserve.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bilal announced the development at Bitcoin Vegas 2025, while addressing an elite audience that included the Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, Eric Trump, and Donald Trump Jr, read a statement released by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) \/Minister of State on Blockchain and Crypto on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis wasn\u2019t just a policy moment \u2014 it was a rebranding of a nation,\u201d the SAPM said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not just here as a minister,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m here as the voice of a generation \u2014 a generation that is online, on-chain, and unstoppable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pakistan is home to 40 million crypto wallets and one of the largest and most active freelancer economies in the world, he shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During his keynote address, Bilal also announced the establishment of a national Bitcoin wallet, \u201cholding digital assets already in state custody \u2014 not for sale or speculation, but as a sovereign reserve signalling long-term belief in decentralised finance\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SAPM shared that the government has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40364594\/pakistan-allocates-2000-mw-to-bitcoin-mining-ai-data-centers-in-bold-digital-economy-push\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allocated 2,000 megawatts (MW) of surplus electricity<\/a>&nbsp;in Phase 1 for Bitcoin mining and AI data centres, \u201copening doors to sovereign miners, tech firms, and clean energy partners around the world\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With AI and Bitcoin mining operations requiring massive, consistent power, Pakistan\u2019s surplus electricity, particularly from underutilised plants, is being repurposed into a lucrative opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is just the beginning because we have over 100 million unbanked people. They lack tools for saving for investment, and we want to change that. We want them to break their economic classes, and I really believe that crypto can help us take that quantum leap,\u201d said Bilal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Days ago, the government announced the establishment of a dedicated body \u2014 the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40363926\/pakistan-establishes-digital-assets-authority-to-regulate-crypto-blockchain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pakistan Digital Assets Authority (PDAA)<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 to regulate blockchain-based financial infrastructure, read a statement released by the Ministry of Finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBoth Pakistan and Bitcoin have suffered from bad PR,\u201d Bilal declared. \u201cBut if you look past the headlines, you\u2019ll see something else: talent, resilience, and vision.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re building something real \u2014 come build it in Pakistan. Come build wallets for the unbanked. Come tokenise land.
