You may need to refresh the blog to see it.Share<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Iran executes man accused of spying for Israel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An&nbsp;<strong>Iranian<\/strong>&nbsp;man convicted of espionage and intelligence cooperation with&nbsp;<strong>Israel<\/strong>&nbsp;was executed on Wednesday, Iranian state media reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entangled in a decades-long shadow war with Israel, Iran has put to death many individuals it accuses of having links with Israel\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>the Mossad intelligence service<\/strong>&nbsp;and facilitating the latter\u2019s operations in the country, notably assassinations or acts of sabotage meant to undermine its nuclear programme, reports Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Iran\u2019s judiciary media outlet Mizan, the defendant identified as&nbsp;<strong>Mohsen Langarneshin<\/strong>&nbsp;was accused of involvement in several cases, including the death of a&nbsp;<strong>Revolutionary Guards<\/strong>&nbsp;colonel in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDuring his two years as a spy (\u2026) he was responsible for important actions, including supporting terrorist operations and being present at the scene of the assassination of Sayad Khodai,\u201d state media said. It said the defendant also provided operational support for an attack on an industrial centre in&nbsp;<strong>Isfahan<\/strong>, affiliated with the&nbsp;<strong>Ministry of Defence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The state media reports said Langarneshin had confessed to the charges. Reuters was not able to reach a representative for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this week, Iran\u2019s foreign minister&nbsp;<strong>Abbas Araqchi<\/strong>&nbsp;accused Israel of seeking to derail&nbsp;<strong>Iran-US nuclear talks<\/strong>, with Israeli prime minister&nbsp;<strong>Benjamin Netanyahu<\/strong>&nbsp;rejecting the idea of limiting&nbsp;<strong>Tehran<\/strong>\u2019s uranium enrichment via a deal and pushing for the full dismantlement of its nuclear infrastructure.Share<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>US<\/strong>&nbsp;is scheduled to give evidence at the&nbsp;<strong>international court of justice (ICJ)<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>The Hague<\/strong>&nbsp;at 10am, local time (9am BST).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today is the third of five days of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/apr\/27\/israel-faces-legal-pressure-at-un-top-court-over-unrwa-blockade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proceedings in The Hague&nbsp;<\/a>that may prove critical to&nbsp;<strong>Israel<\/strong>\u2019s future within the world body. The&nbsp;<strong>UN<\/strong>\u2019s top court will hear from dozens of nations and organisations in order to draw up an advisory opinion on Israel\u2019s humanitarian obligations to&nbsp;<strong>Palestinians<\/strong>&nbsp;more than 50 days into its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/apr\/27\/gaza-on-brink-of-catastrophe-as-aid-runs-out-and-prices-soar-groups-warn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">total blockade on aid entering&nbsp;<\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/apr\/27\/gaza-on-brink-of-catastrophe-as-aid-runs-out-and-prices-soar-groups-warn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gaza<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UN was the first to address the court on Monday, followed by Palestinian representatives. In total, 40 states and four international organisations are scheduled to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Tuesday,&nbsp;<strong>South Africa<\/strong>, a staunch critic of Israel, presented its arguments. In hearings last year in a separate case at the court,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2024\/jan\/26\/how-south-africas-genocide-case-against-israel-played-out-in-the-hague\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the country accused Israel of committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 a charge Israel denies. Today\u2019s evidence will be from the US, Israel\u2019s ally.<br><br>The court will probably take months to rule. Our goal is a clear victory without compromise.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent US strikes on&nbsp;<strong>Yemen<\/strong>&nbsp;have killed more than 100 people, Reuters notes. That figure includes 74 at an oil terminal in mid-April in what was the deadliest strike in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/yemen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yemen<\/a>&nbsp;under the Donald Trump so far, according to the Houthi-run health ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rights advocates have raised concerns about civilian killings. Houthi-controlled television said on Monday a US airstrike killed 68 people after striking a detention centre for African migrants in Yemen.Share<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">US and UK launch joint strikes on Houthis in Yemen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>US and British forces conducted a joint military operation in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/yemen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yemen<\/a>&nbsp;on Tuesday, according to Britain\u2019s Ministry of Defence, which said the operation was against a Houthi military target responsible for making drones like those used to attack shipping.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A British statement claimed intelligence analysis identified a cluster of buildings located 24 km (15 miles) south of Yemen\u2019s capital Sana\u2019a that were used by the Houthis to manufacture drones of the type used to attack ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the first time the UK military has attacked Yemen since Donald Trump was inaugurated as US president for the second time. US vice-president JD Vance has been vocally dismissive of European defence capabilities.
