Asif said in a post on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.brecorder.com\/primary\/2025\/04\/08231047bc1b873.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>PIA\u2019s operating margin remained above 12%, which is \u201ccomparable to the performance of some of the world\u2019s best airlines\u201d, the PIA said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDuring these reforms, there was a significant reduction in workforce and expenditures, stabilisation of profitable routes, elimination of loss-making routes, and restructuring of the balance sheet,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPIA\u2019s return to profitability will not only enhance its credibility but also prove beneficial for the national economy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40356508\/cash-starved-pia-to-achieve-profitability-for-first-time-since-2003-bloomberg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a&nbsp;<em>Bloomberg<\/em>&nbsp;report published earlier today<\/a>, the airline achieved earnings per share of Rs5.01 in the year ended December 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40353860\/business-losses-financial-restructuring-under-way-at-pia-na-told\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Khawaja Asif informed the National Assembly<\/a>&nbsp;that the cash-starved PIA had initiated a financial restructuring process aimed at tackling its ongoing problem of persistent business losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a written response to an inquiry, he stated that the restructuring involved removing the bank debt of Rs268.7 billion, the government\u2019s debt of Rs170 billion, legacy operating liabilities totalling Rs188.3 billion, and employee liabilities amounting to Rs44 billion from the corporation\u2019s financial records, along with non-core assets valued at Rs26 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently, the negative equity saw a remarkable drop from Rs698 billion to Rs45 billion by April 2024, reported&nbsp;<em>Business Recorder<\/em>&nbsp;then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reference Link:- <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40356557\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40356557<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) returned to profit after 21 years, as the national flag carrier posted a net profit of Rs26.2 billion for the year 2024.
