The 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, also known as chunyun, concluded on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Wei Xiuchun, a rail attendant at Tonghua Railway Station under the China Railway Shenyang Bureau Group Co., Ltd., this year’s Spring Festival travel rush held special significance. It was not only the last one at his post before he retires, but it was also for the 88-year-old station where Wei has worked for 42 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tonghua Railway Station, located in the southeastern part of Jilin Province, has handled more than 110 million passengers since its operation in 1937. It once served as a transportation hub linking Tonghua to major cities including Beijing, Qingdao, and Dalian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wei began his career at the station at the age of 18. He has witnessed renovations to station buildings, upgrades in facilities, and transformations in working style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About 8 kilometers away from Tonghua Railway Station, a new modern railway station is under construction. It’s set to be put into operation this year together with the Shenyang-Baihe high-speed railway. Once it is completed, the travel time from Tonghua to Beijing will be cut to 3 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking forward to his upcoming retirement, Wei envisions taking the high-speed train from Tonghua to visit his children in north China’s Tianjin. (Xinhua\/Xu Chang)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
