{"id":15337,"date":"2025-02-21T06:46:39","date_gmt":"2025-02-21T06:46:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gsrra.com\/?p=15337"},"modified":"2025-09-23T19:26:18","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T19:26:18","slug":"imf-pakistan-to-open-1-billion-climate-finance-talks-next-week-says-adviser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gsrra.com\/?p=15337","title":{"rendered":"IMF, Pakistan to open $1 billion climate finance talks next week, says adviser"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Khurram Schehzad says mission to visit from February 24 to 28 for review and discussion of climate resilience funding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/channel\/UCFWx0mweS7ExXjs3s_wH0CQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BusinessRecorder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/businessrecorder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/brecordernews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/feeds\/latest-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><strong>An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission will arrive in Islamabad next week to discuss around $1 billion in climate financing for Pakistan, an adviser to the Pakistan finance minister said on Thursday.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Khurram Schehzad told&nbsp;<em>Reuters<\/em>&nbsp;that the mission would visit from February 24 to 28 for a \u201creview and discussion\u201d of climate resilience funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The disbursement will take place under the Fund\u2019s Resilience and Sustainability Trust, created in 2022 to provide long-term concessional cash for climate-related spending, such as adaptation and transitioning to cleaner energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40348666\/pakistan-economy-moving-in-the-right-direction-says-imfs-georgieva\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pakistan economy moving in the \u2018right direction\u2019, says IMF\u2019s Georgieva<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pakistan made a formal request in October last year for around $1 billion in funding from the IMF under the trust, to address the nation\u2019s vulnerability to climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The country\u2019s economy is on a long path to recovery after being stabilised under a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40323931\/imf-executive-board-approves-pakistans-7bn-bailout-package-pmo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$7 billion IMF Extended Fund Facility<\/a>&nbsp;it secured late last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another IMF mission will arrive in Pakistan in the first week of March for a first review of that facility, Schehzad said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Global Climate Risk Index places Pakistan among the countries most vulnerable to climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Floods in 2022, which scientists said were aggravated by global warming, affected at least 33 million people and killed more than 1,700.
