Dispels myth of palm oil’s environmental, health impacts<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indonesia’s Acting Consul General Teguh Wiweko has said that Pakistan remains a vital partner of Indonesia in the global palm oil trade and together the two countries aim to strengthen sustainable practices in this crucial sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the Indonesia-Pakistan Seminar on Palm Oil 2025, held in collaboration with key industry stakeholders on Thursday, the envoy highlighted the robust trade relationship between the two nations as over 80-90% of Pakistan’s palm oil imports were sourced from Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Themed “Strengthening Sustainable Palm Oil for the World,” the workshop brought together experts and industry representatives to address misconceptions about palm oil and emphasise its potential as a sustainable resource.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The consul general lauded support of the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries, the Indonesian Palm Oil Association and the Palm Oil Suppliers Association of Pakistan for co-hosting the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasised that the workshop served as a platform to deepen bilateral ties and explore collaborative opportunities in the edible oil sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussions during the workshop debunked myths about the environmental and health impacts of palm oil, with experts highlighting the industry’s efforts to promote sustainable practices. “It is imperative to rely on scientific discourse to dispel misconceptions that overshadow the true potential of palm oil,” Wiweko added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event addressed challenges such as stagnation in palm oil production and rising domestic consumption in Indonesia. Strategies to maintain stable long-term supply chains, reduce deforestation, preserve biodiversity and promote responsible land use were the key topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop’s timing, ahead of the annual Pakistan Edible Oil Conference on January 11, added further significance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
