On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the State of Palestine affirms its position rejecting all forms of sexual violence in the world, and points out the persecution and torture to which the Palestinian people are exposed, including sexual violence, by the Israeli colonial occupation. Which led to the most heinous war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.
The Ministry condemns the continued perpetration of systematic and widespread crimes against the Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation, which are not limited only to premeditated murder, enforced disappearance, arbitrary arrests, starvation, forced displacement, storming and demolishing homes, confiscating land and property, and denying access to medical and basic services. It also includes the use of sexual violence as a tool of war over 75 years. This has been confirmed by many official reports and investigative articles, in addition to live testimonies, where Palestinian prisoners and detainees are exposed to humiliating and tragic conditions, including interrogation, torture, humiliation, sexual assault, and deprivation of all rights guaranteed by international humanitarian law in Israeli colonial occupation detention centers. Since the beginning of October 2023, the occupation has arrested more than 9,155 Palestinian men and women, including 300 women and 635 children, and forcibly disappeared thousands of citizens, many of whom are subjected to sexual violence, beatings, torture, harassment, verbal abuse, and forced nudity at the hands of forces. Israeli occupation. The State of Palestine affirms that these heinous acts not only demonstrate a disregard for the dignity and rights of the Palestinian people, but also their contempt for international law and the simplest rules of morality, and have led to the commission of the most heinous war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.
In this context, the Ministry calls on the international community and its institutions to assume their responsibilities and work to stop the barbaric Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, stop the genocide, lift the siege on the Gaza Strip, and provide unconditional access to food, water, fuel, and medical and humanitarian aid. The Ministry calls on the Secretary-General and his Special Representative on Sexual Violence during Armed Conflict to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the various forms of sexual violence committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people, and to ensure accountability for them, in continuation of the principles of fair treatment, equality and non-discrimination.
In conclusion, the Ministry affirms the right of Palestinian men, women, children, and the elderly to live in safety and enjoy the necessary legal protection from all forms of violence, torture, and persecution by the Israeli occupation and the terrorism of its settlers.
