A lot is appearing in the media regarding US-China tension and hostile statements, it is worrisome and many people around the globe are worried about the future of this world. It is a well-recognized fact that the China and US are two big powers and militarily very strong, strong enough to destroy each other, even the rest of the world too. Under this scenario, it is well-understood public worries.
Looking at the media, it justifies that everyone is under stress due to the two big countries’ rivalry. Official statements and leaders’ announcements are still very hostile. Especially, in respect of Taiwan and the South China Sea, the military build-up is leading toward confrontation. The US is ganging up against China and using media as a tool to malign China, distort China, and create hurdles in the rise of China.
Yet, I am hopeful for peace and negotiated settlement of all disputes and differences between China and the US. It is well conceived that China is always looking forward to peace and never initiate any tussle. It is in Chinese DNA to remain peaceful. In the history of several thousand years, China has not invaded any other country. And to date, the Chinese seem to be a peace-loving nation.
I share my observations and insights regarding the recent diplomatic visits by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Senior Diplomat Kessenger to China. It is evident that there is a genuine willingness on the American side to diffuse tensions and improve relations with China, and I wholeheartedly support this approach. The visits by Secretary Blinken and Senior Diplomat Kessenger serve as a significant step towards fostering a more constructive and cooperative engagement between the two nations.
The surprise visit of the 100-year-old former US secretary of state comes as John Kerry, the US climate envoy, is in Beijing to meet Chinese officials to discuss how the two countries can cooperate on confronting the climate crisis. Kerry is the latest in a string of senior US officials who have traveled to China this summer, after the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, completed a long-awaited trip in June. “Neither the United States nor China can afford to treat the other as an adversary. If the two countries go to war, it will not lead to any meaningful results for the two peoples,” the Chinese statement reported Kissinger as saying.
Kissinger has repeatedly warned of “catastrophic” consequences of a conflict between the US and China. But if you are able to, then there are three good reasons to support us today.
1. Our quality, investigative journalism is a scrutinizing force at a time when the rich and powerful are getting away with more and more
2. We are independent and have no billionaire owner pulling the strings, so your money directly powers our reporting
3. It doesn’t cost much and takes less time than it took to read this message
The approach taken by the United States in these diplomatic missions exhibits several key indicators of their willingness to improve relations:
Engagement and Dialogue: The decision to send high-level officials demonstrates a commitment to engage in direct dialogue with Chinese counterparts. Open communication channels are vital to understanding each other’s perspectives and addressing concerns more effectively.
Seeking Common Ground: Both Secretary Blinken and Senior Diplomat Kessenger have emphasized the importance of finding areas of mutual interest and cooperation. By focusing on shared goals and interests, the U.S. aims to build bridges and move beyond contentious issues.
Addressing Differences Respectfully: While acknowledging the existence of differences, U.S. officials have approached them in a respectful manner. This approach seeks to avoid unnecessary escalations and create an atmosphere conducive to finding common solutions.
Multilateral Engagement: The U.S. has emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing global challenges such as climate change, health pandemics, and economic stability. This approach recognizes that working together on global issues is beneficial for both countries and the international community.
Long-Term Stability: The U.S. is demonstrating its commitment to fostering a stable, predictable, and constructive relationship with China. This outlook is crucial in reducing uncertainty and promoting sustainable cooperation.
As an advocate for peaceful international relations, I firmly believe that open communication, respect, and a willingness to find common ground are essential elements in resolving differences between nations. The recent visits by Secretary Blinken and Senior Diplomat Kessenger reflect a positive step forward in bridging gaps and promoting a more stable and cooperative U.S.-China relationship.
While challenges undoubtedly remain, the diplomatic efforts displayed by the U.S. authorities offer hope for a more constructive path ahead. As concerned global citizens, let us support and encourage these diplomatic initiatives, as they hold the potential to bring about a more prosperous and harmonious future for both nations and the world at large.
It is to be emphasized that it is not all well, still issues and concerns exist, but, optimistically, I believe, there is a will for peace, and hope peace will prevail.
